Notes on Location is an exhibition with seven Nordic artists, all with a conceptual and experimental approach to the relation between visual material, language and text. All the artists work with the artist publication as well as language, literacy and materials that are traditionally associated with books as a medium, such as paper and different kinds of printed matter. Thus, the artworks on the exhibition are all inspired by the possibilities of literature and language, but are manifested as text, sound, photography, sculpture and installation.
Notes on Location is made up of three different parts: an exhibition, a symposium and a publication. The symposium is related to the exhibition and, through various themes, unfolds the artist publication as a field and genre as well as focusing on the relationship between words, picture and literature. The symposium provides the framework for an exchange of theory and practice between scientists, artists, publishers and writers from Denmark and the other Nordic countries.
The symposium is given in cooperation with the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen as well as the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts on the 19th and 20th of March.
The publication will be established online and will work as a processual archive with contributions from the participating artists and the participants from the symposium. After the exhibition has ended, the publication will be put into print by the publishing house -1. The publication and the process can be followed on www.notesonlocation.dk
