Denmarks biggest art award
The three award winners can be experienced in exhibition at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art. Every straight year the award is given to Danish fine artists as a special recognition of their artistic practice and as a cheering and helping hand to the given artist’s future work.
The three award recipients this year are Tina Maria Nielsen (b.1964), Jeppe Hein (b.1974) and Christian Lemmerz (b.1959).
The artistic members of the board of Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Award, sculptors Elisabeth Toubro and Søren Schaarup justify the appointment as follows:
” (…)Tina Maria Nielsen’s interpretations and tales about and of (ed. the world) is mysterious and deeply fascinating. For her way to open up the world for us at a severe, reverse and alluring way, she is awarded Anne Marie Carl Nielsen and Carl Nielsen’s Honorary Prize 2018 (…)”.
” (…) Jeppe Hein is awarded for his ability to examine the borderland between art and architecture and create artworks that specifically invite the viewers to participate in the work, make them sense and be present both in relation to themselves and others (…)..”
”(…) For over 40 years, Christian Lemmerz has managed to maintain his artistic integrity and message while demonstrating a unique ability to constantly test new boundaries and possibilities for his artistic expression (….) He is awarded for his ability to hold onto his artistic universe, giving ethical, moral and existential questions to all of us, as well as for his sublime technical ability in all disciplines of the visual arts”.
