It is with great pleasure that Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art opens its doors to the first exhibition of the year, 404 Not Found, by Artnode (comprising Jacob Lillemose, Nikolaj Recke, Mogens Jacobsen, Martin Pingel, Niels Bonde, Kim Borreby and Morten Schjødt).
Since their inception in 1994, Artnode have explored the potentials and problematics of the Internet and the opportunities to expand the aesthetic field through formal, institutional and social means. In both optimistic and critical tone, Artnode continue to revisit the Internet as a place for the production and distribution of artistic practice; from the early years, when the modem would roar for several minutes, to the more advanced technology of today. The exhibition 404 Not Found is a manifestation of this exploration, with a focus on the development of the Internet and its current effect on the digitized human being and society.
The work “Users’ Club – offline”, initially exhibited at the National Gallery of Denmark in 2011 as Users’ Club, will as an extension of the exhibition provide the basis for a series of events to discuss the Internet as an aesthetic and political space. Among other things, the program offers events from artists such as Evan Roth, UBERMORGEN and Cornelia Sollfrank (check out denfrie.dk for an updated program).
