OUTDOOR EXPERIMENTS

Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art initiates Outdoor-Experiments, a 4-year art, architecture and performance project, which investigates Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art’s physical placement and significance as a culture institution in and for its local environment.

The intention with the project is to explore and experiment with the interaction between the culture institution and the citizens in the public space, thereby breaking the building’s architectural boundaries between indoor and outdoor. Outdoor-Experiments wishes to involve a series of artists and architects who each get the possibility to experiment with J. F. Willumsen’s building, the architecture and the square in front of Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, plus the 8 roads leading to the building / LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR FORMER PROJECTS

the-visitor---happy-space   THE VISITOR
/ July 2nd 2011 – January 1st 2012

On July 2nd Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art will get a visit from a very special guest. Created by Markus Aerni and Boel Hellman of the Stockholm-based architect duo h a p p y s p a c e, The Visitor aims to share a vision through investigative and conceptual architecture. In the humming urban space at Oslo Plads The Visitor offers an intimate space for passers-by to explore and occupy. The Visitor is an architectural construction that does not dwarf the inhabitant - instead it creates a frame for reflection on the private and public spaces through which we voyage – both physically and mentally – when living in the city. When daylight fades The Visitor is illuminated from within and stands out as a luminescent wanderer. The Visitor can be experienced all the way through to the New Year.

h a p p y s p a c e has carried out architectural installations in public space in cities and parks across the Nordic countries: Stockholm, Stavanger, Reykjavik and now Copenhagen.

As is the case with The Visitor, their projects often concern an investigation into how temporary architectural forms and elements in urban spaces can add a new perspective and change our experience of the places we frequent daily.

Every week a poem by a Nordic author will be written inside The Visitor. The poems are chosen by the editors of the Swedish poetry journal 10TAL.
