BEHIND ART

How is an exhibition created? Who chooses the artworks on display? What does it mean to curate? Which stories do exhibitions tell? And how do artworks affect each other?
Behind Art offers meaningful insights into how exhibitions are created and how presentations of artworks influence the stories they tell. Here participants engage in a dialogue concerning the creation of meaningful spaces between the art pieces, the viewer, the curator’s intentions, the exhibition room, and how these elements influence the overall experience.

DURATION: 2 hours
PARTICIPANTS: Max. 30 people
PRICE: 550 DKK

THROUGH ART
In the workshop Through Art participants meet art where it is and where it is created. Here participants are allowed to get very close to artistic processes and create art together with an artist, who takes his or her own artistic project as a point of departure. The workshop facilitates creative meetings, meaningful learning, and artistic productions.

DURATION: 2-4 hours
PARTICIPANTS: Max. 30 people
PRICE: 900 DKK

EXPERIENCE ART
Experience Art accentuates the senses, encourages personal involvement, and opens a variety of possible access points to understanding art. During the workshop the participants take part in a sensory experiment, where they experience art with their entire bodies in playful and personal ways. Through a series of practical experiments participants will discover that art is not only about “seeing” but also about sensing, co-creating, and experiencing.

DURATION: 2 hours
PARTICIPANTS: Max. 30 people
PRICE: 550 DKK.

ARTIST WORKSHOPS

Artist Workshops are specially organized in collaboration with a selected artist who, with departure in her/his own artistic process and practice, runs the workshop. Specific workshops are also organized in relation to the current exhibitions; here will the exhibition’s artists or curators run the workshop. As an artist run institution Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art has a close contact to a number of leading Danish artists who make part of the team of workshop leaders.

ARTIST IN THE HOUSE
As a new initiative, Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art offers workshops as part of the ‘artist in the house’ program supported by the Danish Arts Council. This collaboration between Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, a school and a Danish artist sponsors encounters between children, students, and the art, and offers valuable insights into artistic processes.

Visual artist Tina Scherzberg (b. 1973) is the first ‘artist in the house’ at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art. Taking the current exhibition as a point of departure Tina Schertzberg’s workshops introduce school classes (grades 6-9) to contemporary art and offer them insights into the many possibilities of art interpretation. After a thorough introduction to about the exhibition, the students, in co-operation with the artist, choose an art work which they work with in groups. For example the students can choose to transform their interpretation of the art piece into their own story, which subsequently can result in a simply produced animation.
