In the video Square Disintegrate (2013) the Indonesian multimedia artist Ricky Janitra (b. 1985) thematises life in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta. The artwork is a sensory remix of visual and sound based impressions from the city’s architecture, traffic, and underground in combination with graphic illustrations. The video is a visual diary in which pictures and soundscapes are sustained by the artist’s political statements concerning the social imbalance and general conditions for citizens living in the centre of the world’s fourth largest growing economical power.
The artwork Square Disintegrate is showed as a run up to Centre for Culture and Development’s (CKU) annual culture event IMAGES. At Den Frie Udstillingsbygning the collaboration with IMAGES results in the exhibition On Collectivism on artists’ collectives, curated by the Indonesian curator Ade Darmawan.
