Tabita Rezaire is part of a generation of artists that grew up with the World Wide Web, for whom cyberspace is as familiar as the air we breathe. With a characteristic digital interface aesthetic, combined with what Rezaire calls ’digital healing activism’, her art unfolds at the intersection of feminist thinking, metaphysics and the politics of technology. She represents an astute and pertinent presence, with a practice that epitomises critical developments on the contemporary art scene.
Drawing inspiration from Senegambian stone circles, archaeology, astronomy, numerology and African understandings of the cosmos, with the video installation Mamelles Ancestrales she strives to establish pathways between heaven and earth and the living and the dead in a world where celestial bodies, organic lifeforms and spirits sing together.
