Open Call 2019
Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art has a yearly Open Call and invites all artist groups, artist associations and networks, Danish and international alike, to submit their exhibition application.
At Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, we consider it our finest task to unfold and explore the collective exhibition format, showing exhibitions rooted in the building’s tradition of being an Artists’ House.
For the yearly Open Call, we are looking for projects that focus on the collective format, and the application should consider the following aspects:
– Projects that challenge the format of group exhibitions and artist associations.
– Exhibitions that enter into dialogue with the particular architecture of the building.
– Exhibitions that investigate relevant subjects concerning art, artists and audience.
– The Open Call project is always initiated and curated by artists.
The exhibition must occupy all the exhibition rooms of the upper floor (600 m2).
Suggestions must be submitted as one PDF file and sent electronically to the email email@example.com.
Deadline is November 20 2017. The exhibition period will be approximately 4 weeks in the Spring of 2019.
The application must cover the following points:
– Summary of the project, including title and number of group members
– Project description no longer than 1 A4 page
– Budget and financial plan
– Images of the submitted project and CV’s of participating artists
Den Frie’s exhibition program for 2019 is arranged by the artistic director of Den Frie and approved by the board.
In addition to the exhibition rooms, Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art will be providing the following:
Heating, water, electricity. Reception staff within regular opening hours. Coordination of transportation and the installation of the exhibition. Communication with the press, coordination of special events and other activities. In addition, Den Frie can charge exhibiting artists and associations for other services related to the installation and execution of the exhibition.
Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art will charge for direct costs in connection with:
Preparation of graphic material, press and documentation photos. Design, production, printing and installation of visual identity, ie: facade posters, signs, wall texts, marketing and communication material. Advertising in newspapers and on digital platforms. Translation and proof reading of texts. Insurance. Hire of AV equipment. Installation team as well as related materials. Possibly darkening of rooms. Transportation of works. Additional cleaning. Extra staff at the opening, special events and workshops. Catering in relation to the installation, opening, meetings, dinners, etc. Managing budgets and funding grants.
